🚨 One Missed Scan Can Change Everything 🚨 This is a real reminder of why regular antenatal care (ANC) is not optional. A pregnant woman underwent her NT scan but missed the 18–22 week anomaly scan and all subsequent antenatal visits. She returned only at 30 weeks, when ultrasound revealed findings highly suggestive of Thanatophoric Dysplasia, a severe skeletal dysplasia associated with a very poor prognosis. By this stage, the opportunity for early diagnosis, genetic counselling, fetal medicine evaluation, and informed pregnancy planning had already passed. 💔 The tragedy wasn’t a lack of healthcare facilities. The patient lived in a city with access to hospitals, specialists, and ultrasound services. The missed opportunity was missing scheduled antenatal visits and recommended scans. Every pregnancy deserves: ✔️ Early pregnancy scan ✔️ NT scan (11–13+6 weeks) ✔️ Anomaly scan (18–22 weeks) ✔️ Growth scan (as advised) ✔️ Doppler scans when indicated ✔️ Regular antenatal check-ups Remember, many fetal abnormalities cannot be diagnosed by symptoms alone. Timely ultrasound examinations are often the only way to detect serious conditions early.
